The lyrics to this song SMILE are an important reminder that we can overcome our sadness through music – it doesn’t negate the pain of heartache, but rather it embraces what we must endure at different times in our life. Today, I smile.
Smile, though your heart is aching
Smile, even though it’s breaking
Though there are clouds in the sky
You get by
If you smile through your fears and sorrows
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You’ll see the sun come shining through
If you just light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever, ever so near
That’s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what’s the use of crying?
You’ll find life is worthwhile
If you’ll just smile, come on and smile
If you just smile
Lyrics By: John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.
Music By: Charlie Chaplin This version is being Sung By: Lyle Lovett in the movie Hope Floats
I’ve always loved this song… and I love Lyle Lovett’s rendition of it as well. I continue to pray for peace and strength for you Therese. I can’t take away the lonely feelings in your heart that only Keith could could/can fill; I can only offer you my time and love and hope that each day makes you feel more whole and less alone. (I know you’re actually not alone, but you know what I mean.) Thank you again for these beautiful messages. My heart breaks and then soars with yours.
xoxo,
J

Yes, yes, yes….Live your life with lots of music and you will smile your way through life! I know you are capable of making fine music with your voice. Do you play guitar? Perhaps you need to take up an instrument to share your innermost joys and sorrows. “Couldn’t hoit!” to quote my Jewish friend or….your Uncle Bob!
